How to Get Mls Access

Whether you are buying or selling real estate, the Multiple Listing Service (MLS) is a powerful database with valuable information. However, the MLS is only available to licensed real estate agents and brokers. Many serious investors choose to obtain their real estate license so that they are able to access valuable tools, including the MLS. Once a real estate license is obtained, a real estate salesperson must be employed by an active real estate agency prior to obtaining MLS access.

Bring all paperwork and documentation to your state’s department of real estate to initiate the licensure process. You may need to complete a background check, drug screen or other requirements as dictated by your state. You must have a real estate sales license in order to obtain MLS access.

Apply for a real estate sales position with a licensed real estate broker. In order for your license to be active you must maintain employment with a licensed real estate broker at all times. If you allow your employment status to lapse, so will your MLS access.

Join your local Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors (NAR). The Association of Realtors will guide you through the process of applying for MLS membership for the geographical region that your Broker has membership with. Once this is complete, you will have MLS access.
